Mariah Carey sued over All I Want For Christmas Is You just as festive celebrations start

It may be hitting the festive season, but one disgruntled songwriter is waging a war with Christmas Queen Mariah Carey over her classic holiday hit.

Mariah Carey declares 'it's time' for Christmas with chilling teaser

Mariah Carey is being sued by disgruntled songwriters over All I Want For Christmas Is You.

The iconic singer, whose smash hit single has become one of the defining staples of the holiday season, is getting ready to head out on her first Christmas tour.

However, two songwriters are attempting to shake her down for $20million in damages after they released a song with the same name in 1993 - a year before Mariah released hers.

Andy Stone and Troy Powers have filed the lawsuit, which - according to TMZ - is almost the same as one they filed last year as well.

In the paperwork, the pair claim they have suffered damages to their career after getting extensive airplay and even reaching the Billboard charts in 1993, before Mariah’s song buried their success.

The duo have gone on to claim there is also similarities to the hook and melody of both tracks, as well as their “overall feel”.

They claim Mariah has “palmed off” the works to make them “seem like her own”.

As a result, the pair feel they are owed restitution for the losses made during their song war.

Daily Express US has contacted Mariah Carey representatives for comment.

Currently, Mariah has not made any official comment on the matter.

However, Mariah has been “thawing herself out” with a sneaky tease for her upcoming Christmas tour.

In a joke post on November 1, Mariah was seen locked in an ice-cold safe, which opened the second Halloween ended on October 31.

With November officially arriving, she was thawed out by men in pumpkin masks with hairdryers, before the power of her voice broke the ice.

The Merry Christmas One And All! Tour starts November 15 in California, and will conclude at Madison Square Garden on December 17.
