A glamorous string of Las Vegas hotels has been hit by an outbreak of bed bugs, leaving several guests covered in inflamed and itchy bites.

The infestations have been reported at more than six sites lining the city's famous strip where guests were bitten in their sleep over the past two years.

Several establishments have been forced to seal off affected rooms so that mattresses and furniture can be professionally fumigated.

Some of the guests have left disgruntled comments detailing their symptoms on Twitter, which include rashes, blisters, and allergies.

“F***ing bed bug infections,” tweeted one visitor, “Every f****ing time that Id’s be residing here in Vegas, I always ended up with red splotchy and itchy sin TF.”

Another person said had a similar experience while visiting the strip, writing "Bed bugs @ the Horseshoe Hotel & Casino Las Vegas June 2023," adding that they received “no help or compensation from management", but "only a room change".

Another person wrote: “Had the worst stay at Paris Vegas Hotel."

According to the Tweet, their room was "full of dust and gave me allergies on the first night. Then my roommate got bitten by bed bugs!"

“Hotel did not give any compensation or anything,” they added.

Additionally, guests at the Palazzo told health officials they were bitten in January last year, the same month that a Grand Room at MGM had to be decontaminated.

“MGM Grand had to spray and clean their poker room on July 18 this year for bed bugs,” wrote one visitor on Twitter. “And they got rid of their standard chairs.

"Dealers complained for months, players got all bit up just before they finally sprayed.”

The hotel responded to the incident in a statement that read: “We have comprehensive procedures in place to address and resolve any issue that may arise."

The reports came soon after a warning from the journal Insects that bed bug infestations were on the rise, shooting up by 114 percent between 2011 and 2016.

The blood-sucking critters are harmless, they can leave a trail of itchy red marks in their wake, which eventually lead to inflammation and allergic reactions.

The likelihood of bed bugs is greater in hotels because of the high turnover of guests, who unknowingly carry bed bugs in their luggage.

In essence, the bugs act as hitchhikers that typically come from infested furniture, luggage, clothing, and pillows, as they prefer dark sheltered residences.
