'See what my Korean family eat on Thanksgiving - with no turkey or stuffing'

A Korean woman has shared the non-American Thanksgiving Day meal she had with her family. There was not a turkey in sight, nor mashed potatoes or stuffing.

Traditional Thanksgiving plates filled with mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and turkey, of course, are not everyone’s standard for Thanksgiving Day. Some people stick to their cultural roots and plan a meal that’s more aligned with what they might typically eat on the day-to-day.

Sara (@spark.it.up), an Ohio-based woman with a Korean background, shared what her family eats for Thanksgiving in a social media video, and viewers are loving the variety and venture away from the norm.

Sara started her video off: “Thanksgiving food except for it’s not actually Thanksgiving food, and it’s Korean family style.”

The family went all out with their setup, and according to Sara, their dishes were randomly thrown together, the foods not necessarily having a correlation to one another.

Among the dishes were traditional Korean foods such as jjajangmyeon and bibimmyeon. Jjajangmyeon is a Korean noodle dish that’s topped with a thick sauce. The sauce is composed of chunjang, diced pork, and vegetables.

Bbibbimyeon is a type of Korean mixed noodle. Steak, salmon, and pork buns were also among the menu.

Sara said: “We had rice. We had everything you could think of.”

She showed off her family’s plates which were covered in colorful nontraditional Thanksgiving foods, adding that they all went back for seconds and thirds.

Viewers of her video thought the Thanksgiving foods looked quite delicious.

One person wrote “Everything looks amazing!!” while another said “the best Thanksgiving dinner ever, I wish I was there”.

Fully relating to Sara, another viewer wrote: “I don’t like traditional Thanksgiving food either! My fam and I would always order in sushi.”

The content creator responded saying that sushi is also a go-to for her family on Thanksgiving.

And someone else wrote: “Korean Thanksgiving is the BEST!!! Instead of turkey, my friend’s family orders a HUGE platter of sashimi. Thought I died and went to heaven.”
