Anthony Mackie has become the first actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to speak out about his co-star Jonathan Majors.

Mackie, 44, was discussing his forthcoming film Captain America: Brave New World from Marvel Studios when he was asked about the fate of Majors’ character King the Conquerer.

The Falcon and Winter Soldier actor told Inverse: “We’re a country that was built on, ‘Everyone is innocent until proven guilty’.

“That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing.

“So everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That’s all I can say.”

Adding to the outlet: “It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”

Majors, 33, was arrested back in March this year on domestic violence allegations.

He was then charged with several accounts of assault and aggravated assault. If he is found guilty, Majors could face a year in jail.

The Hollywood actor appeared in the brief two-minute court hearing on June 20 via video link during which Judge Rachel S. Pauley confirmed his trial date on August 3.

He was also reminded he must have “no contact whatsoever” with the alleged victim, who was treated in hospital for injuries sustained to her neck and face.

His defense team has claimed their client is innocent of any assault claims.

Majors’ attorney Priya Chaudhry claimed the actor was the subject of a “witch hunt” and believed she held “smoking gun” evidence to prove his innocence.

The evidence in question is believed to be footage of the alleged victim supposedly partying after the incident.

Since his arrest, Majors has found his meteoric rise to fame stalled with a series of Be All You Can Be TV commercials for the US Army, featuring the actor, taken off air.

A representative told The Hollywood Reporter: “While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete.”
