John McCook would ‘discourage’ his daughter from signing up to Bold and the Beautiful

John McCook believes in daughter Molly's star potential, supporting her TV career while also discouraging her from joining Bold and the Beautiful.

The Bold and the Beautiful: Here’s to joy and laughter

Veteran actor John McCook, famed for his long-running role as Eric Forrester on CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful, has always believed in the star potential of his daughter, Molly McCook.

In a 2007 interview with Soap Opera Digest, he revealed that Molly, then 16, was eager to embark on an acting career, a passion she shared with her mother, former television actress Laurette Spang-McCook, known for her role in Battlestar Galactica.

Molly McCook's early aspirations have since blossomed into a successful television career.

Initially securing minor roles in shows like 10 Things I Hate About You and Glee, Molly achieved a significant breakthrough with her portrayal of Mandy in Last Man Standing, starring alongside Tim Allen.

However, John has cautioned against Molly signing up for The Bold and the Beautiful or other soap operas for a long stint.

During a recent appearance on the Talks To-Go podcast, he said: “If somebody offered her a 20-year contract or a 10-year contract on a soap opera, at this point, I would discourage her.

“Earlier on, yes, I would say, ‘Go for it, and move out when you’re ready’. It’s a great training ground for younger actors and a great job for older actors.

“But that middle ground, when you’re 25-65, it becomes the kind of job that’s a weekly paycheck.”

While John encouraged Molly to try out soap opera roles if she wants them, he clearly also wants his daughter to try and carve out her own path in showbusiness.

In 2021, the father-daughter duo co-starred in Candy Coated Christmas, Food Network's first scripted movie, which streamed on Discovery+.

John McCook expressed pride in working alongside his daughter on the project through an Instagram post, calling it a dream come true.

Beyond her acting achievements, Molly McCook is known for her close relationship with her father.

John McCook, although not a frequent social media user, often shares updates and accolades of Molly's career, reflecting his unwavering support.

Similarly, Molly frequently posts about her father, including a Father's Day 2023 tribute where she lauded him as "the best accompanist a girl could ask for."

In June 2022, Molly played a pivotal role in preparing her parents for the Daytime Emmy Awards, capturing the moment in a heartfelt social media post and celebrating her father's win.

The McCook family's mutual admiration and support in the entertainment industry continue to be a hallmark of their public persona, with fans eagerly anticipating potential future collaborations - especially a return of Molly McCook to The Bold and the Beautiful.
