New House Speaker could 'force through acts of impeachment' against Joe Biden

EXCLUSIVE: Joe Biden could find himself under more huge pressure from Republicans as they look to name a replacement in the House hot seat for Kevin McCarthy.

Joe Biden could be hit by a huge nightmare with a warning the new Speaker of the House of Representatives "might try to force through acts of impeachment" against the president.

Republicans are now desperately scrambling to replace Kevin McCarthy, who was dramatically voted out of the hot seat following weeks of vicious party fighting.

But Biden has come under huge pressure from House Republicans, who recently branded the early stages of their impeachment inquiry against the president a success, insisting they justified their case.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had kicked off the inquiry over allegations Hunter Biden had engaged in improper business dealings that benefited the president.

Andrew Sanders, Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at De Montfort University, warned McCarthy's replacement could further attempt to continue what the ousted Speaker had started.

When asked if the removal of McCarthy has any impact on the likes of Joe Biden, the expert told Daily Express US: "A lot depends on who is perceived as being to blame for these events, and also how things resolve.

"The possibility of a government shutdown still exists, as does the likelihood that McCarthy's successor might try to force through acts of impeachment against Biden.

He added: "A lot depends on there actually being another Speaker in office, though, and exactly what McHenry's role as Speaker Pro Tempore is allowed to be.

"If he's allowed to stay in the role and serve as basically an un-elected Speaker, there are major constitutional questions that will have to be answered."

Another crisis that could face Joe Biden is the looming prospect of a disastrous government shutdown.

Last weekend, the president approved the 45-day funding bill in a move that kept government agencies open for the start of the new fiscal year on October 1.

The short-term package, removed aid to Ukraine but increased federal disaster assistance by $16 billion, and was approved by the House by a margin of 335-91.

But the bill only funds the government until November 17, raising fears of a shutdown if no new arrangements can be made.

Mr Sanders warned: "The most serious issue that is on the horizon is that 45-day government funding bill that will expire in a little over a month.

"If a shutdown occurs, and it has only been just under four years since the last one, a large number of people are going to be going unpaid and services going unfulfilled.

"None of this helps with the ongoing economic issues that ordinary citizens are experiencing at the moment."

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer warned Congress is in a "dangerous situation" due to there currently being no permanent House Speaker in place.

He said on the Senate floor: "We find ourselves in a dangerous situation; with about 40 days to go before the government shuts down, the House has ground completely to a halt."

Schumer accused Republicans, eight of whom voted to remove McCarthy on Tuesday, of holding up legislative processes, adding: "Until Republicans stop their infighting, the House can vote on no bills. No appropriations work can get done."
