Biden's Democrat rival Dean Phillips will be 'silenced' in his bid for 2024 success

EXCLUSIVE: Political expert Peggy Grande tells Daily Express US that Rep. Dean Phillips' campaign against Joe Biden "will not be taken seriously".

Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota officially launched his presidential campaign against President Joe Biden last week, but one political expert believes he will be unsuccessful.

Phillips had called for a Democratic primary challenge to Biden for months but drew no public interest from governors or lawmakers.

The 54-year-old congressman finally entered the race himself on October 27 in an announcement outside New Hampshire’s statehouse, saying: “It is time for the torch to be passed to a new generation of American leaders.”

But political expert Peggy Grande told Daily Express US she believes Phillips’ campaign “will not be taken seriously”.

Grande said: “Unless the powers that be on the left determine that Rep. Phillips is their candidate of choice, he will be silenced, slammed, or ignored.”

Grande added that the Democrat Party primary nominating process is “anything but democratic.”

She said: “They rule with a dictatorial thumb and are not interested in letting the voters select their candidate, but rather, select the candidate internally that the party machine prefers.

“[Phillips] will not be taken seriously and the mainstream media puppets will fall in line and not give his candidacy any air time, unless approved by the DNC.”

Grande added that she expects what happened to Robert F Kennedy, Jr. to happen to Phillips: “He will either have to leave the party in order to run a viable campaign, or will fall into the media black hole with his fellow Democrat presidential rival and spiritual thought leader, Marianne Williamson.”

While Phillips is highly unlikely to beat Biden, his run offers a symbolic challenge to national Democrats claiming there is no reason to doubt Biden’s electability - even as Americans question whether the 80-year-old president should serve another term.

Phillips said in his speech that he would try to fix the economy and warned about high prices and “the chaos at our border” - all issues that are potential vulnerabilities for Biden as he heads into a likely rematch with Donald Trump.

Biden has long cast himself as uniquely qualified to beat Trump again after his 2020 win, with top Democrats lining up behind him while also positioning themselves for a future primary run.

Biden’s re-election campaign issued a statement last week saying it was “hard at work mobilizing the winning coalition that President Biden can uniquely bring together” to beat Trump.
