Legendary musician Jimmy Buffett has tragically died at the age of 76.

The devastating news was revealed on the renowned Margaritaville singer’s official Twitter page, as his team assured fans the guitarist was surrounded by his nearest and dearest, including his beloved dogs.

The statement read: “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.

“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

The singer is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane Slagsvol, and their three children, Savannah, Sarah and Cameron.

Following the sorrowful announcement, fans, known as Parrotheads, flooded the comments section with memories and condolences.

One wrote: “I’m absolutely gutted and crying right now over your death. Rest In Peace, Paradise and Love. Jimmy Buffet you are a legend to admire.”

Another quipped: “Enjoy your cheeseburger in paradise my friend, see you in margaritiville RIP.”

Some of Jimmy’s high-profile pals also shared in the mourning, with the Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission referring to his iconic song with Alan Jackson: “It’s time for your 5:00 somewhere…”

The government official added a sweet poem in honor of the fallen musician: “The parrotheads are mourning today/But we'll celebrate his life each way.

“He took us to Margaritaville/Where the drinks are all free and the weather's always fine.

“He'll be missed, but his music will live on/So let's raise a glass to the man they call Captain Jimmy.

“RIP, Parrothead.”

In May, the Grammy nominee revealed he had been hospitalized for “some issues that needed immediate attention” and jokingly cautioned his followers: “Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you.”

He had originally headed to the doctor’s office for a routine check-up but his unexpected hospital stay forced the platinum-selling artist to postpone some of his South Carolina shows.

However, Jimmy assured fans he would be back on stage as soon as he was back “in shape”, adding on social media: “ I think playing is as therapeutic for me as it is for fans to listen and sing along.”

Jimmy is largely credited with popularising the beach bum soft rock genre of music with his 1977 hit Margaritaville which quickly became a staple karaoke number and inspired restaurants and resorts across the globe.
