Israel strikes Lebanon terrorist cell as bombs rain on Gaza in bloody end to ceasefire

It comes after fighting resumed between Israel and Hamas following a seven-day ceasefire.

Central Israel is "under a heavy barrage of rockets from Gaza", the IDF has said, as it reported it has attacked a "terrorist cell" operating in Lebanese territory.

The Israeli army wrote on X it had identified a “number of launches” from Lebanon toward its positions and had responded with artillery fire.

It added fire from Lebanon had been directed at army posts “in the area of ​​Rosh Hankara and Margaliot as well as towards the city of Kiryat Shmona,” but that its air defenses were able to successfully intercept the attack.

Israel said the cell has been operating in Lebanese territory adjacent to the Israeli border community of Zar'it.

Earlier, Israeli air defense systems had intercepted a suspicious aerial target that had crossed from Lebanese territory into Israel, according to the IDF.

A mother and her son were reportedly killed after IDF artillery struck the town of Hula, in Southern Lebanon.

In retaliation, Hezbollah says it "targeted the deployment points of the Israeli occupation soldiers in the vicinity of the Ramya site," according to Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV.

The report has not been verified.

Meanwhile, Hamas' armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, has claimed responsibility after a reported rocket attack on Tel Aviv, where air raid sirens have sounded today.

The military group claimed it bombarded “Tel Aviv” with a barrage of missiles in response to what Hamas says are massacres against civilians committed by Israel.

It comes after fighting resumed between Israel and Hamas after a seven-day ceasefire that saw hostages and prisoners released, and desperately needed humanitarian aid enter the Gaza Strip.

More than 100 Palestinians have been killed since the fighting resumed.
