Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny marked Harrison Ford’s final project as the iconic archaeologist - but just four months into filming a devastating tragedy rocked Hollywood.

In October 2021 on the set of Rust, a western flick that hasn’t yet been released, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins tragically died after being shot by Alec Baldwin’s prop gun.

The incident made global headlines and brought movie sets’ safety policies under intense scrutiny both by companies and fans fearing for their favorite stars.

It wasn’t much different on the Indiana Jones set, as producer Simon Emanuel told Daily Express US at the London premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

He declared the Rust shooting “absolutely” impacted filming and morale on set as “everyone had a very heightened awareness of it”.

The producer reassured that the movie’s beloved 81-year-old lead had been in safe hands with a “blanket rule” of not having any live-firing weapons on set at all.

He explained that Lucasfilm has always been quite stringent over on-set safety regulations, and highlighted that roughly 95 percent of the weapon action in the latest film had been shot without actually shooting at all.

Simon shared: “Generally at Lucasfilm, we don’t use live ammunition.

“For years we’ve been doing muzzle flashes with visual effects.

“As a rule, we have guns that are made of rubber, we don’t use even working replicas and if we do it would have to be for a very specific reason and then we take extra precautions.”

He jokingly added: “If you can do lasers firing out of guns on Star Wars, you can do muzzle flashes firing out of guns in Indy.”

The Rust shooting made headlines across the globe with Alec Baldwin only concluding his highly-publicized legal battle over it last month.

The 65-year-old was originally charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter which were dropped in April but came to a settlement agreement with Halyna’s family which was approved by a court in June.

The lawsuit against the 30 Rock star was first filed in February last year on behalf of Halyna’s widower, Matthew Hutchins, and their 10-year-old son Andros.
