Husband dismembered and 'cooked' ex-wife in saucepans in sickening murder

More than five years after the murder took place, the perpetrator was sentenced to 55 years in prison for killing his ex-wife.

'Femicides' on the rise across Mexico

Mexican man César Gómez Arciniega has been jailed for 55 years after being convicted of the brutal murder of his ex-wife, Magdalena Aguilar in a crime that shocked the country.

The 28-year-old woman's dismembered body was discovered in a refrigerator and cooking pots in 2018.

In a press release, the Guerrero Attorney General's Office said a tribunal delivered a guilty verdict, sentencing the accused to 55 years in prison, the suspension of his rights, the payment of a fine, and restitution for damages.

César Gómez's mother, Silvia Arciniega, who was an accomplice in the crime, is currently serving a 40-year sentence in prison.

Magdalena Aguilar Romero, a 28-year-old nutritionist and mother of two, had aspirations to better herself and support her family. But on January 13, 2018, her ex-husband César killed her.

The tragic tale of Magdalena Aguilar Romero and César Gómez Arciniega began in 2011, seven years before the horrifying crime. Six months into their relationship, news of their first child's arrival led to their marriage.

The arrival of their first child prompted Magdalena to leave her nutrition studies and dedicate herself entirely to her new family - a decision that did not always bring her happiness.

Throughout the marriage, César committed psychological violence against Magdalena. He prohibited her from contacting family and friends, dictated her appearance, and even forbade her from exercising.

Fed up with the situation, Magdalena sought help from her parents and, with her children, managed to leave the house she shared with César. Despite his pleas for her to return, she refused.

Despite the separation, their two children continued to connect them, fostering encounters between the ex-spouses. Magdalena never denied César access to their children.

Three years after their separation, Magdalena took her children to her father's house. She agreed to meet César in a public place to pick up the children, but he never showed up.

Concerned, Magdalena went to his house, where she was last seen alive.

After not responding to multiple text messages, Magdalena's mother went to César's house to inquire about her daughter. Both he and his mother claimed Magdalena had been there but left in the afternoon.

However, the mother's suspicion that something was amiss heightened when she noticed scratches on César's face. Magda's family reported her disappearance to the authorities soon thereafter.

Mexican police eventually found Magdalena dead. Shockingly, the perpetrator not only took her life but also dismembered and cooked her. Her remains were discovered in cooking pots, allegedly used to prepare pozole, a traditional Mexican dish.

Magdalena's mother-in-law was immediately arrested and sentenced to 40 years in prison. However, César remained a fugitive for over four years, prompting Interpol to issue a search warrant until his capture on July 9, 2022, in Tijuana, where he had been hiding.
