A savvy woman's hack for storing bread has been hailed "genius" by internet users - who claim it can extend the shelflife of fresh bread twofold.

The tip comes from TikTok user Sammar Charif, who has garnered more than 3.4 million views on her page.

The content creator revealed that her unorthodox habit of storing the bread in the microwave has helped it keep it soft and fresh for weeks.

Addressing followers from her TikTok page @sammar, the content creator explained: “People call me a freak when they see that I have bread in the microwave, but listen it keeps it fresh.

“It lasts twice as long," she added. "This [bread] expired like a week and a half ago and there not a teensy, incy bit of molds.”

The TikTok influencer noted that it now takes her three weeks to finish an entire loaf, helping her save money on groceries.

One person in the comments admitted that they also stored their bread in the microwave. They said: “I put mine in the microwave because I don’t have a bread box and my dog will eat it if it’s on the counter.

“This is easy and handy when you have a gremlin/kitten that will eat your bread,” chimed in another viewer.

Others in the thread of comments branded the content creator “so smart” for her hack. “This is so genius,” wrote one user.

Another quipped: “Truth! I left bread in my microwave in my holiday trailer… from last season. No mold. So soft.

“I do the same, I don’t even use the microwave for anything else,” joked one viewer.

The efficacy of the method can be clearly explained by the fact that a microwave becomes an airtight container once its door is closed.

This is why the microwave-as-a-breadbox trick can be applied to other produce that needs tutoring, so you don’t end up cluttering your countertop.

This prevents moist air from getting to the bread starch, which can begin to crystallize and turn hard and crumbly.
