Honey Boo Boo has paid a touching tribute to her sister Chickadee as she gives a tragic insight into her last days before her death aged 29.

Honey Boo Boo, whose real name is Alana Thompson, has shared a heartfelt tribute to her sister Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell who sadly passed away at the age of 29.

Anna's mum, Mama June, announced the tragic news on Sunday, revealing that Anna had been battling stage 4 adrenal cancer since January.

In an emotional Instagram post, Honey Boo Boo shared a family photo with Anna and wrote: "This is one post I wish I didn't have to make. Last night we all surrounded Anna with love and let her know it was okay to go.

"Unfortunately, around 11pm Anna took her last breath," Honey Boo Boo went on to say.

The 18-year-old reality star, who found fame on TLC, added that her sister was "in a lot of pain but now she is at peace".

She revealed that her heart has been "completely broken" by her sister's death and that watching her battle the disease over the past year has been incredibly difficult.

"Anna was a fighter and still is. Lord please wrap your arms around her 2 babies and our family as the next couple of days will make this all a reality," she wrote.

Adding: "I'm so glad that you waited til i was home to take your last breath! I would've loved for you to get to see me graduate college but i know you will forever cheer me on in heaven!"

"We will all make sure your legacy lives on forever. And i promise to always make sure to celebrate our birthday like you never left!

"The sky looks a little bit different today. We will always love you Anna. You hit me hard with his one Anna but i know your in a better place now and pain free forever!" she concluded her tribute.

Fans offered their condolences in the comments, with one person writing: "Absolutely saddening my deepest condolences to you and your family."

Another said: "Im so sorry for your loss, Alana! Sending my condolences for you and your family," while a third fan added: "I'm so sorry for your loss thinking of you."

Announcing Anna's death, Mama June said: "With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM."

"She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won't and we will be updating y'all with more information as we get it today. We love y'all and continued prayers and thoughts for our family doing this difficult time #mamajune #prayers #cancersucks #family."

Anna was diagnosed with stage four adrenal carcinoma in January, which was discovered after she complained to the doctor about stomach aches. After undergoing tests, doctors discovered the cancer in her liver, kidney and lung.

According to the Mayo Clinic, adrenal cancer is a rare cancer that begins in one or both of the small, triangular glands that are located on top of your kidneys. It can occur at any age.

Anna is survived by her two young daughters, whom she shared with Michael Cardwell.
