'Mary Magdalene of Congress' George Santos says he expects to be expelled from House

The embattled Senator at the center of controversy claims Congress is too busy investigating his personal life.

Embattled George Santos has bemoaned his fate, claiming that his fellow politicians are so engulfed in his own controversy that they can't handle their own business.

Dubbing himself the "Mary Magdalene of Congress" because he feels that his fellow politicians all want to "stone" him, Santos says he expects to be expelled by the House when it resumes.

"I know I'm going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor," Santos said on X Spaces, in the wake of the damning report by the House Ethics Committee that found "substantial evidence" of lawbreaking by the New York Republican. "I can do math."

But he also promised to "defend himself" until the end of time — and to re-emerge as an ambassador if, indeed, he does get expelled, because he's "very cultured."

A report from the House Ethics Committee, made up of both Democrats and Republicans, found evidence Santos used campaign funds for personal luxuries like Botox treatments and extravagant trips to Atlantic City.

The ISC report alleged Santos spent this money at high-end store Hermes, OnlyFans, Sephora, as well as on meals, parking, and to pay off his credit card bills.

“Representative Santos sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit,” investigators wrote. They claimed he did not cooperate with the report and repeatedly “evaded” straightforward requests for information.

On Friday, Santos said he did not want to address the specifics of the report, which he claimed were “slanderous” and “designed to force me out of my seat.” Any defense of his conduct, he said, could be used against him in the ongoing criminal case brought by federal prosecutors.

The last motion to expel George Santos (R-NY) from the House of Representatives failed, with the votes splitting predictably between the party lines.

The Washington Post reported the vote was split 179-213 against expelling the junior representative.

Democrats overwhelmingly voted to expel Santos, citing his ongoing federal investigation as their reason.

Republicans, on the other hand, voted to keep him in his position, citing the need to wait for the ethics report against him.
