Dancing With the Stars fans demand ‘redemption’ season for ‘greats who should have won'

Some Dancing With the Stars fans have a very specific request for the show's likely 33rd season.

Some Dancing With the Stars viewers were elated when they saw Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy win the first-ever Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, but others are using the win to call for some big changes when it comes to a potential 33rd season of the show.

While nothing has been confirmed yet regarding ABC potentially bringing the show back for another run in 2024, it’s widely believed the show will return.

However, while the show has made a name for itself with its usually diverse casting each season, reaching out to celebrities from reality TV, film, music, sports and social media to round out its cast, some longtime viewers are hoping for change before the show makes a return.

Though not necessarily opposed to stunt casting with controversial names, that doesn’t seem to be what fans have taken issue with.

In fact, fans have made some interesting demands thus far about what they would want to see.

In addition to fans who have proposed age restrictions on contestants after Xochitl, who is only 17, won, others feel that Jason Mraz can now be added to a list of contestants they feel got robbed of the win.

As such, they are calling for the show to do a redemption season, and have already shared some of the dream cast members who they would love to see come back to once again try for a Mirrorball.

Jason is one of the names many fans have thrown into the running, but he would be in good company – among many celebrities who actually had higher average scores than the ones who won their seasons.

Despite being young as well when she competed, some fans called for Zendaya to get another shot after placing second in season 16 with Val. During her time on the show, she averaged slightly higher scores than champ Kellie Pickler and pro-turned-judge Derek Hough, though they took home the Mirrorball.

Another younger star who some felt was robbed was Riker Lynch, who placed second in season 20 with Allison Holker. They also averaged slightly higher scores than actual champs, Rumer Willis and Val.

Unsurprisingly, others also called for Milo Manheim to get a redemption attempt with Witney Carson, after they had significantly higher scores than season 27 winners Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess.

Rounding out the celebs many felt deserved a redemption arc was Catfish host Nev Schulman, who, along with Jenna Johnson, placed second in season 29 to Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev.

The idea of a redemption season isn’t necessarily far-fetched, however, as the show did previously do an All-Stars event for the 15th season – and brought back both former Mirrorball champs and those who missed out on the trophy during their first time on the show.

That wound up serving as a redemption for former Bachelor star Melissa Rycroft and partner Tony Dovolani, who won after initially taking third in season eight. They wound up beating their original season’s winner, Shawn Johnson, who took second during All-Stars.
