Not even can save the DCEU.

The 51-year-old actor wanted to make his superhero character Black Adam the most important in the comic book movie franchise but unfortunately did not succeed.

The project had been in the works since 2007, but the DCEU went through many changes; James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios.

The Rock was left to make a film about an obscure character.

Black Adam flopped unsurpringly as a result, making $393 million at the box office on a budget of about $190 – $265 million. No one expected the superhero movie to make a billion (per Screen Rant).

The film's Rotten Tomatoes score currently stands at 38%.

During his recent appearance on Kevin Hart's talk show, Hart To Heart (per Screen Crush), Johnson explained where Black Adam went wrong.

The movie's problems were the result of getting “caught in a vortex of new leadership.”

The former pro wrestler said there was "so many changes in leadership."

He added: "As you know, anytime you have a company, but especially that size and magnitude that’s a publicly traded company, and you have all those changes in leadership, you have people coming in who, creatively and fiscally, are going to make decisions that you may not agree with."

Johnson planned for a Black Adam and Superman team-up, spearheading a new direction for the DCEU.

Instead of team-up, Black Adam got an unimaginative origin story that has no connection with any of the franchise's other films.

Now, all plans for a sequel are impossible.

The Fast & Furious actor claims the plans for Black Adam 2 then got “caught in that web of new leadership," referring to Gunn and Safran.

Johnson also said the situation surrounding Black Adam's flop will “always be one of the biggest mysteries.”

Right now, The Rock is more concerned with the Fast & Furious franchise: his return as Hobbs in Fast X has been confirmed.
