Donald Trump "ambled" towards the podium to make his speech in New Hampshire today, and appeared to show signs of "apprehension and stress" with his audience, a body language expert had said.

Behavior expert Judi James spoke exclusively with Daily Express US after the 45th made a long speech today, touching on everything from warning about World War 3 to the economy.

She explained that Trump - who was not joined by his wife Melania - looked more "vulnerable" than usual, but that this may well help him build a rapport with his fans. Judi said: "Trump's ambling entrance saw him throwing mimed, arm-splay hugs at the audience and pointing individuals out in a technique that creates instant rapport by making a large crowd feel he knows them personally.

"His facial expression as he turned appeared to acknowledge and share his apprehension and stress at the current time and for a very long while he adopted the pose of a martyr, standing to attention with his chin raised, his chest puffed, sighing and sucking his lips in as the musical track boomed out."

Trump will benefit by showing a more vulnerable side, the body language expert claimed, especially against the backdrop of his recent court appearances.

Judi explained: "Trump’s current court case seems to have mellowed him and he’s now added a few touches of vulnerability into his act, like an expression of being on the brink of emotionally overwhelmed at the sound of the audience support.

"After his years of pomposity and alpha poses this slight air of vulnerability could actually add to his popularity as existing fans get to feel they know him on a more human level."

She went on: "He spoke as though he was not using a script and he told stories like a raconteur that seemed to have little political reference but which were funny, self-effacing, and, again, hugely personal.

"His ability to connect on this very personal level should be seen as frightening to his enemies because it is a very potent form of charisma."

All this sets him aside from his fellow presidential candidates, Judi told Daily Express US. She said: "Trump’s undeniable form of charisma now allows him to stand out like a wild beacon in a world of political leaders who tend to have an AI approach to mechanical, scripted speech-making.

"His smug relish was acutely visible in the wide, lip-less smile as he worked the crowd like a man who had lifted the skills and body language tricks of Bill Clinton and quadrupled them."
