Donald Trump could not resist a dig at Republican presidential nomination rival Ron DeSantis as as he slammed the CFP after Florida State missed out on the College Football Playoffs. The former US President took a swipe at the Florida governor for after the team was overlooked for the four-team field.

The divisive decision of the CFP selection committee after they nominated Michigan, Washington, Texas and Alabama as their picks as the top four programs in the country. The decision to omit the Seminoles has inspired reactions from key figures from Florida State University team's set-up, as well as mainstream political names.

The major contention coming from Florida is that the team was 13-0 and had won their respective conference championship, alongside defeating their three nearest challengers in recent times. Despite their record, it was determined that an injury to star quarterback Jordan Travis had rendered the team 'different' to the point that they could not attain a playoff place in the view of the voting members.

Explaining the call to snub the Seminoles, CFP Committee Chairman Boo Corrigan told ESPN: "Florida State is a different team than it was the first 11 weeks. As you look at who they are as a team right now without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic he brings, they are a different team and the committee voted Alabama four and Florida State five."

Now, former President Trump has joined the chorus of high-profile voices who have denounced the controversial decision. Taking to his Truth Social social network, the Republican frontrunner lambasted the committee, while also making a dig towards DeSantis.

In a staunch statement, he told his followers: "Florida State was treated very badly by the ‘Committee,’ he wrote on the social media platform, he said. "They become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs. Really bad lobbying effort….Lets blame DeSancticmonious!!!"

His swipe at the Florida governor is the latest example of the two political heavyweights trading blows as they chase the Republican nomination ahead of a potential tilt at the White House. In this instance, Trump's contention appears to be that DeSantis had not lobbied hard enough to influence or change the decision.

Taking to his social media, he wrote on Twitter/X: "What we learned today is that you can go undefeated and win your conference championship game.

"But the College Football Playoff committee will ignore these results," DeSantis continued as he praised the team for their efforts during the season in spite of the decisiom, adding: "Congratulations to @FSUFootball on an outstanding season and winning the ACC championship!"

Joining him in condemning the call, Florida State coach Mike Norvell asserted: "I am disgusted and infuriated with the committee’s decision today to have what was earned on the field taken away because a small group of people decided they knew better than the results of the game,"
