If you don't remove your old luggage tags, there is the danger your bags could end up somewhere else, a marketing expert at a luggage tracking company has said.

How many of us return home from holiday and keep our old luggage tags on our bags? If you do, and you don’t remove them before your next trip, your bag might end up somewhere else the next time you check-in.

Losing your luggage is a traveller’s biggest nightmare, says a marketing expert at luggage tracking tech company, Gego.

Yohanna Isis said: “Before checking in your bags, remove any old baggage tags or stickers from previous trips”.

“This reduces the chances of confusion and ensures that the correct destination information is displayed on your luggage."

We all know by standing at the luggage carousel that most travellers have almost identical black cases.

To double check you do actually pick up your own bag, you may want to check the tag information.

"When retrieving your checked luggage at your destination, always verify that the baggage claim tag matches the information on your ticket," suggests Yohanna.

“Double-check the tags number, color or any other distinguishing features to ensure you’re picking up the correct bag”.

Another tip she says, is to invest in a good, sturdy piece of luggage. "Don’t assume that your bag will remain perfectly intact during transit," she said."

“Consider using durable luggage or protective covers to minimize the risk of damage”.

How we pack our suitcases is important, but so too is our hand luggage.

While we may want to travel light on the flight, it’s important to keep your valuables with you, should indeed, your bag go missing, she says.

That includes carrying all medications, ID’s, itineraries and valuable items such as jewellery and electronics.

“Keep the items with you in your carry-on bag to minimise (z) the risk of loss or theft," she said.
