Terror suspect on the run after bizarre prison break strapped to underside of food truck

Police in Britain are on the hunt of a 21-year-old terror suspect who fled one of the country's most secure prisons by strapping himself to the underside of a food truck.

The bizarre prison break has captivated Britain and put the country on high alert as the search for the suspect, who authorities believe may be working with Iran, enters its second day.

New pictures of escaped inmate, Daniel Khalife, show him pictured topless in Army barracks. The pictures show him wearing trousers, and holding a uniform shirt with ironing amenities within his surroundings.

The 21-year-old, who escaped prison on Wednesday, has been accused of seeking to obtain intelligence for Iran. He is also accused of planting fake explosive devices at a military base while serving in the Army.

The nationwide manhunt has been launched for the former soldier who was awaiting trial at HMP Wandsworth in London.

It is believed he escaped via a prison kitchen by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery van.

Another released image shows Mr Khalife in his uniform, pictured smiling and looking directly at the camera lens and photographer.

Mr Khalife is 6ft 2inches tall, and was last seen wearing a prison-issue chef's uniform which is a white t-shirt, red and white chequered trousers and brown steel toe cap boots.

The Prison Service is working with the Metropolitan Police to "urgently investigate" how Mr Khalife escaped.

Police believe Mr Khalife poses a "low risk" to the public but people are being urged not to approach him and to call 999 instead.

Airports and ports have been asked to carry out additional security measures, resulting in delays being reported across the UK, including at Heathrow Airport, Manchester Airport, and the Port of Dover. British authorities have issued an all-ports alert to track him down.

According to a former detective chief investigator with the Metropolitan Police, Khalife has most likely left the United Kingdom.
