Chris Hemsworth has been on our screens as Thor for years, and his personal chef Sergio Perera has explained what meals he prepared for the Marvel actor to keep him looking buff.

Perera, a Michelin-trained chef, has worked for Hemsworth for over ten years after the actor’s wife, Elsa Pataky, called him to offer him a job.

In an interview with News AU, Perera said: “He had just finished the first Thor movie and he needed someone to help match his meal plan to his physical demands and that’s how I came on board,

“I would sit with his trainer, who is one of his closest friends, and we would all work together on figuring out Chris’ goals.”

Perera has played a huge role in helping Hemsworth look the part of a superhero and has explained what the actor eats in order to build up so much muscle.

According to the chef, one of Hemsworth’s favorite food is “good quality beef” and the actor does not eat anything that is “boxed or canned.”

Perera said: “Obviously the guy is a big boy, he requires a lot of protein for the body he has.”

A big part of Hemsworth's diet consists of lots of fresh vegetables and keeping lots of water in order to keep his fluids up. Perera added: “When it comes to building muscle he just keeps it very clean with of a lot of barbecuing — like meats and vegetables — and keeping it Mediterranean which involves a lot of olive oil.”

He also detailed one meal the Hemsworth would eat every day to look the part of a Viking God.

Perera said: “One thing I did religiously with him, was every single day he would have one very large, hearty salad that consisted of raw and cooked vegetables, fermented products, nuts, seeds and a lot of good fats with a piece of steak or a big piece of fish.”

Perera now works with Hemsworth to develop recipes for his fitness app Centr, and explaining in a past blog post that snacking is essential when trying to build up muscle.

He wrote: “ When Chris is bulking up – his muscles, not his belly! – he has to eat a lot. That’s where the snacks come in….We keep Chris to wholefoods where possible, such as nuts, eggs, and tuna.”

Like "clockwork”, the Marvel actor starts every day with a smoothie, made up different types of leafy green vegetables, nuts, seeds, low-glycemic fruits and a small amount of sea salt which is meant to help with “electrolyte balance, nerve transmission and glucose metabolism.”

The chef added: “For protein, we prefer a mix of rice, hemp and pea protein which works well for Chris.”

Obviously eating protein and grain is essential when building muscle, but Perera’s tip is to only eat things such as red meat during the day, He wrote; “While [Chris will] eat a bit more red meat than usual when building muscle, we limit it to daylight hours, as red meat requires more energy to digest.

“The same goes for grains. (Steamed rice is Chris’s favorite.) Chris will, however, enjoy a lamb chop at night if training runs late.”
