China has hit back at Joe Biden's comments after he called President Xi Jinping a "dictator" for his "unstoppable" approach to retaking Taiwan.

During a press conference the day after the US-China summit, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said this kind of speech is "extremely wrong" and "irresponsible political manipulation".

The incident occurred on Wednesday during Biden's press conference that followed the US-China summit in San Fransisco, just hours after a spokeswoman for the Chinese government said her country would be "unstoppable" in their attempts to retake Taiwan.

During the press conference, Biden was asked by a reporter if he still considered Xi Jinping to be a dictator, a label he gave to the president in June in the aftermath of a Chinese spy balloon being brought down off the coast of South Carolina.

Biden said: "Well, look, he is. He's a dictator in the sense that he's a guy who runs a country that is communist country, that is based on a form of government that is totally different than ours.

Since this comment was made, China have made every effort to censor it, with comments on social media site Weibo being full of praise for the meeting between the presidents.

Biden's comment was in response to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying referring to the "Taiwan question" as "the most important and most sensitive issue in China-US relations" during the summit on Wednesday.

And in a post on X, Chunying wrote: "The US side should take real actions to honor its commitment of not supporting ‘Taiwan independence’, stop arming Taiwan, and support China’s peaceful reunification. China will realize reunification, and this is unstoppable."

Biden did not make any mention of Taiwan in his press conference, and reiterated America's commitment to the "One China" policy.

China said the United States should stop arming Taiwan and support China's "Peaceful reunification."

Taiwan also released a statement after the summit, expressing gratitude to Biden for "publicly expressing the United States' firm stance on maintaining peace in the Taiwan strait," and saying it will "actively strengthen its self-defense capabilities" and "deepen the Taiwan-US security partnership."

During the meeting, the two presidents tackled issues of fentanyl supply coming from Asia and improving commucations between the two countries' militaries.

Biden has referred to Xi Jinping as a dictator twice now, with the first instance being: "The reason why Xi Jinping got very upset in terms of when I shot that balloon down with two box cars full of spy equipment in it was he didn't know it was there. That’s a great embarrassment for dictators when they didn’t know what happened."
