A child killer has been infuriating New York cops and prosecutors as he continues to refuse to say where he hid the body of his 12-year-old victim after 27 years.

Lewis Lent Jr. murdered Sara Wood after kidnapping her while she was riding back home from the church where her father served as a pastor on August 18, 1993 in upstate New York.

He confessed to his crime three years later while already serving a life sentence in Massachusetts for the murder of 12-year-old Jimmy Bernardo.

Despite his confession, however, Lent Jr. has continuously resisted attempts to have him reveal where he hid Sara's remains, fueling concerns he could be hiding more bodies.

Herkimer County District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter said: "My investigators and I have been visiting Lewis Lent continuously for the last 30 years.

"He's a psychopathic child murderer, so you have to start with that premise. And he wants to keep her presence all to himself."

Carpenter said his men recently scoured 29 acres of woods in Vermont after reviewing previous conversations with Lent but found nothing.

He explained: "Investigators reviewed all of their prior discussions they had with Lent, and they focused on one particular occasion where he described the location where he buried Sara's body.

"I think he doesn't want to give up the location to keep her presence all to himself.

"There's always been this theory that there are other children buried with Sara, and those are crimes for which he could be prosecuted for."

He told Fox News Digital: "This is just speculation, but when you look at what Lewis has done over the course of his lifetime, it's not wild speculation."

Carpenter suggested Lent Jr. could also be toying with investigators with his refusal to share Sara's burial location.

Lent Jr. was working as a school janitor when he was arrested in 1994 for the attempted gunpoint kidnapping of another 12-year-old, Rebecca Savarese.

When he tried to drag her to his truck, Sevarese pretended to be out of breath and created some distance between herself and Lent Jr, giving her a chance to run off.

The following year, the man was convicted on multiple charges for the attempted kidnapping and, during an interrogation, he admitted to killing 12-year-old Jimmy Bernardo in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1990.

Jimmy's naked body was found hanging in Newfield, New York – only a few miles from Lent Jr.'s childhood home.

During the same interrogation, he also admitted to killing Wood and initially said her body was buried near Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks but she was never found.
