Meghan Markle sparks fashion frenzy at boutique causing it to sell out of $10 bag

Meghan Markle was spotted carrying a tote bag from a local artisan in the Caribbean. The tote is out of stock, but the store is working hard to meet demand.

Meghan Markle made a quick trip to the Caribbean with husband Prince Harry. They’re back in the US as of yesterday, and Meghan was spotted “toting one of the totes” from Seven Fires Art, reports People magazine.

Priced at $10, the “flour and seed sack” is currently out of stock but available for pre-order.

The shopping bag is made by Alethea John and her mother Bernice John, who own the A&B Boutique, which is located on the island of Bequia.

The bag is carried by Seven Fires Art, who have updated their official website, giving a shout-out to Meghan, writing: “Check out the last photo of Meghan Markle sporting a Cream of the Island Flour bag!! The wording in the article is copied from this very product listing!”

It seems they’re aware of the "Meghan effect" and are in full swing, taking orders.

Express US checked the website last night and the bag was listed at $15 and it’s now $20. The bag is available for pre-order and apparently, orders are being placed, with the website posting an update:

"We have had to suspend availability until we can be sure we can fill the orders we've already received! We're bringing these back by popular demand! PREORDER NOW: More bags will be available mid-November!"

The bag is 18x18 square inches with two straps and is described as an “upcycled feed and flour sack.” The front reads “Cream of the Islands” with the back providing details about flour.

It’s not clear where Meghan purchased the bag, whether it was on the island or online. Seven Fires Art shared a post on their Facebook page, explaining they weren’t aware of the purchase until seeing the news coverage.

The Facebook post includes a photo of Meghan with the tote, at an airport in Atlanta, GA, and reads:

“Check this out! While in the Caribbean, I extended a Seven Fires Art welcome to a local maker of upcycled shopping bags, and low and behold, Meghan Markle turns up toting one of the totes! While I don't think Meghan purchased her shopping bag from us (unless she used a pseudonym; she probably got it on the island), it's clear the Daily Mail DID use the wording from our product listing!"

The "Meghan effect" is a real thing, with other retails saying they see a surge in sales after she’s spotted wearing or carrying one of their items. She has been seen wearing affordable brands like Club Monaco, Banana Republic and J.Crew.
