Diplo and Chris Rock saved by fan as they tried to escape Burning Man flooding disaster

Diplo and Chris Rock were among the thousands of Burning Man attendees who suddenly found themselves encased in mud following a flash flood in the desert festival.

Burning Man: Thousands stranded after heavy rain

World-renowned DJ Diplo and his unlikely pal comedian Chris Rock excitedly revealed they were attending the Burning Man festival at the start of the weekend, but their cheery anticipation soon took a turn.

Tens of thousands of attendees found themselves stranded in Nevada’s Black Rock City, surrounded by road closures and with the festival’s airport temporarily closed due to the disastrous weather situation.

However, the two A-listers were determined to escape the chaos with the Elastic Heart hitmaker documenting the difficult journey for fans online.

Sharing the journey on Instagram, the 44-year-old praised one particular fan who became their savior after six hours of walking through the swampy landscape.

Donning a pair of ski goggles as the wind flapped around his face, Diplo wrote: “A fan offered Chris Rock and I a ride out of Burning Man in the back of a pickup.”

He swiveled the camera to show he was one of at least seven in the back of said pickup, with the Netflix star keeping spirits up with some jokes and stories as the group all laughed together.

The scene quickly switched to a far more bleak outlook as the music producer walked across what used to be a sandy desert, following a small group as he explained the ride had only come “after walking six miles through the mud”.

In the caption, the musician explained that he had walked alongside one of the open roads for hours “with my thumb out” in the hopes he would be able to hitchhike his way out of the festival.

Time was of the essence for the DJ as he had in Washington on Saturday night and “didn't want to let yall down”.

Switching back to the pickup, the camera showed Chris joking, although he could barely be heard against the wind: “If I could get a cold brew right now…I would just….ahhh!”

Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Pentz, revealed that cold brew was “all Chris could think about” on the way home.

He ended the post thanking the kind fan, writing: “Shoutout to this guy for making the smart purchase of a truck not knowing it was for this exact moment.”

Others in the back of the pickup also shared some clips of their bizarre journey on social media with one seemingly showing Chris agreeing to “raise your children” as he negotiated with someone through walkie-talkie.

The star-studded group was dropped off in the nearest town where Diplo was able to negotiate with “hippies with a van” to get a lift to the nearest airport, although the Grammy award winner wound up on the Reno airport tarmac with no shoes.

The DJ later revealed that he had made it in time, against all odds, for his DC show but was so rushed he ended up performing “with mud on my face” that he had slathered on during his trek as makeshift sunscreen.

Burning Man attendees have been asked to “conserve food, water, and fuel, and shelter in a warm, safe space" for the time being with the Bureau of Land Management announcing that anyone trying to drive to the festival would be turned around for their own safety.

Some fans tried to keep the notorious party going, sharing on social media that they had resorted to dancing with plastic bags on their feet to stop their shoes from getting sucked into the boggy ground.

The catastrophic floods arrived as a result of Storm Hilary, just catching the tail end of the nine-day festival in Nevada.
