Buckingham Palace sends primary students a thank you note and they are thrilled

A group of children decorated some pants, also known as underwear, and sent them to the King and Queen for their coronation. They got the idea from the book The King's Pants.

A group of students sent a bunch of pants, underwear in the US, to King Charles and Queen Camilla to help celebrate their coronation. But, before sending, the children — inspired by the book The King’s Pants — personalized the cotton undies with illustrations. And, as a result, they received a thank you note back.

The students, who attend Holy Trinity C of E Primary Academy School in Oswestry, Shropshire, England, set aside some class time to decorate the pants with markers, stickers and glitter, and then got them into the post.

Sky News spoke with teacher Cheryl Meddins, who said the children received a thank you note from Buckingham Palace, which had them “jumping up and down.”

It wasn’t just the kids who were excited, it was everyone who was involved with Meddins sharing: “The children were so excited, jumping up and down when we received the letter, to be honest we all were.”

The letter, written by the Head of Correspondence, started off by saying: "The King has asked me to thank you for your very kind letter, and for the colourful art project you so generously sent in celebration of Their Majesties' Coronation."

The sentiment was reitertated with another line reading: "I am to thank you once again for your thoughtful gesture at this time of celebration.”

And, there was a message from Charles and Camilla, that reads: "We were deeply touched by your most kind and thoughtful message following our coronation.”

This isn’t the first time this has happened, with The King’s Pant's author, Nicholas Allan, saying: “I'm so pleased the tradition of sending pants to the monarch continues," reports The Telegraph.

It turns out, Allan spoke to Queen Elizabeth II about the packages, recapping the conversation: "I did talk to the late Queen about schools posting illustrated knickers to her, and she said that the ladies-in-waiting found it very amusing.”

The author himself is happy to hear how the King and Queen reacted to the gift: "It's wonderful to see the present King and Queen appreciate it too.”
