Several businesses in the Bronx have been torn apart by a horror fire as firefighters continue to fight the flames.

The blaze began at around 3.30am, and tore through a number of businesses inside a commercial building in Kingsbridge, New York City.

So far, one person is reported to have been injured. In an update, FDNY officials said the invididual had a minor case of smoke inhalation and was treated at the scene, but didn't require hospital treatment.

Video that emerged on social media show massive flames ripping through the building, with eyewitnesses reporting being awoken by the overwhelming smell of smoke.

Authorities said the blaze began at the Cold Cut City Bunny Deli in the early hours.

Witnesses have claimed that the fire started in the kitchen at the back of the eatery.

At appears that local barber shop, seafood market, meat market, florist and cleaning business were affected, ABC7 New York reports.

"This is insane, it's very sad," A neighbour told CBS News.

"It's where we all go daily. The barbershop is where a lot of our kids, a lot of our husbands go to get their cuts.

Another said: "This is where we go get our sandwiches in the morning. The floral shop -- everyone knows our floral shop."

All 1 trains were temporarily bypassing 231st Street and 238th Street in both directions as first responders tackled the fire, but it now appears to be running as normal, the outlet reported.

The fire comes just days after another six-story building in the in the county collapsed, destoying several families' homes.

Surveillance video showed the moment the apartment suddenly gave way, as school bus passed close by, flinging scaffolding and tonnes of concrete, and building materials onto the street below.

Pedestrians could be seen scrambling for cover after the incidient in the Morris Heights neighborhood at around 3.30pm on Monday.

No victims were found in the rubble, but two people sustained minor injuries while evacuating the damaged building, the fire department said.

An inspection in 2020 found cracked brick and loose, damaged mortar on the building's facade, according to Buildings Department. Commissioner Jimmy Oddo said on Monday that work had begun but he didn't believe any workers present when the collapse occurred.

"I want to be clear: Unsafe facade conditions is not the same as an unsafe building,' he said at the news conference.

Though the property had seven unresolved violations, they weren't structural, he said.

Oddo said officials would look closely at drawings pertaining to the collapsed area. The images had been submitted as part of permitting for work on the facade.
