A three-foot-eight-inch tall woman in a relationship with a man two feet taller has defended their relationship – saying the trolls have brought them closer together.

Cait, 22, who has achondroplasia, and Guy, 32, met in real life in May 2022 after exchanging messages on Facebook.

The couple fell head over heels but, as their romance blossomed, they started to receive negative comments online and even concerns from loved ones due to their height difference.

Despite the trolling, Caitlin insists that overcoming the negativity has only strengthened their partnership.

Cait, from Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, said: “Initially some of my close friends and family doubted Guy’s love for me.”

“Some of my friends were worried Guy was exploiting me in some way or another. He seemed too good to be true. There's this view that people like me cannot get a boyfriend like Guy, so it was a bit bizarre for some people to understand.

She added: “In past relationships, I’ve had some really awful experiences where I feel like I’ve been used, so my friends were rightly unsure about Guy and cautious.”

Trolls have taken aim at the couple online but Cait says that although the abuse hurts, it has made their relationship stronger.

Speaking to NeedToKnow.co.uk, she said: “Online we’ve had some really horrible comments aimed at me about my appearance which we try to ignore.

“The worst comments we’ve had are people accusing Guy of having a fetish and that’s why he’s into me.

“Although it hurts to see this kind of thing, we really do just ignore it because we know how in love we are and how strong our relationship is. The negativity has brought us closer together – it’s us against the world.

“It’s also great that he can reach the top shelf, and I can reach the things lower down!”

Luckily, after meeting Guy, Cait says her family has been nothing but supportive.

She said that her dad and Guy share a special bond while he and her mother hit it off straight away. Despite trolls on social media, many strangers support their relationship.

Cait said: “On social media, we do also get nice comments about my appearance and people supporting us being together.

“One moment that really sticks out for me, and felt a bit like a turning point, was a recent interaction we had in a store.

“An elderly lady came up to me and said ‘You’ve got the best-looking guy in here' and it just made me feel amazing about myself, but us too. We’re so content with our lives right now.”

Cait also shared advice for anyone else who has previously had negative experiences in relationships.

She said: “It’s important to remember to go with your instincts because your gut never lies.

“Be careful and be very vigilant, but the main thing is don’t worry about anyone else’s opinions. As long as you’re both happy together nothing else matters.”
