Black bear caught on camera sneaking through window and eating kitchen of home

A Connecticut resident was surprised to find footage of a black bear raiding her home on her Ring security camera.

Bear breaks into Barkhamsted home and steals frozen food

A black bear was caught on a home surveillance camera raiding a person’s kitchen in Connecticut.

Homeowner Helena Houlis’ Ring security camera caught the unusual break-in, showing the large bear wandering around the home in Barkhamsted, Connecticut, on Wednesday.

The black bear can be seen in Houlis’ front hallway before he walks into the kitchen and opens the freezer door with his paws.

The animal rummages around Houlis’ freezer before taking out frozen chicken.

Seconds later, the bear jumps to the nearby open window and leaves with his snack into the woods outside.

Houlis told Fox News that she was not home at the time and only found out about the bear when her phone alerted her to a potential break-in.

She said the bear managed to enter her home through a cracked window.

Houlis added that the black bear did not cause any damage, but it left tufts of fur and dog food scattered throughout her home.

She said to Fox News: “No damage, he did however get in the bag of dog food and left trails of it all over the house, as well as a lot of fur!”

Black bears have a heightened sense of smell, according to Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environment Protection (DEEP).

According to the DEEP’s website, “the black bear is an intelligent animal with keen senses of smell and hearing. It can detect the slightest aroma of food, which may lead the bear to campsites and near homes.”
