Barbie lines up the perfect sequel with Margot Robbie’s titular doll becoming human at the end of the film, but Greta Gerwig currently has no plans to return to the franchise.

At the end of the blockbuster hit, Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie meets her creator Ruth Handler (played by Rhea Perlman), who grants her the ability to become human and join the real world.

However, Gerwig has now admitted: “At this moment, it’s all I’ve got.”

The movie concludes with a hilarious final scene in which Barbie goes to a gynecologist appointment.

There could be even more antics with Barbie and Ken (Ryan Gosling) in a sequel, which is all but guaranteed as the film has earned over $400 million worldwide in its first week of release.

Unfortunately, Warner Bros and Mattel might have to find another director for the franchise now Gerwig is attached to Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia reboot.

“I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I’ll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did,” she told The New York Times.

“I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream, but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero.”

Toy company Mattel is certainly keen to keep their products on the big screen, and Barbie even jokes a Ken spin-off could potentially be in the works.

In fact, execs are reportedly eyeing as many as 45 other toy lines - including Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket and Uno - to get the live-action treatment.

Gerwig says she’s been “at a loss for words” following the film’s success, which saw crowds lining up to watch the movie dressed in pink.

But the filmmaker - who previously helmed Lady Bird and Little Women - already has other projects in the pipeline.

She’ll next be bringing the works of CS Lewis to life for Netflix, directing at least two films based on the Narnia saga.

“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it,” she told Total Film.

“But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign.

“Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Okay. Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’

“No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And so we’ll see, I don’t know.”

Barbie is out now.
