Wells Fargo leads the pack in bank branch closures this autumn - list of affected sites
Banking has been evolving since the pandemic with institutions like Wells Fargo being forced to adapt.
Wells Fargo, PNC Bank and JP Morgan Chase are among the financial institions closing branches across the nation.
Banking has changed significantly since the Covid-19 pandemic with consumer behaviour shifting to using online services more.
As such, banks have been forced to adapt which has resulted in hundreds of branch closures over the past year.
These sites shutting down are not just reserved for smaller banks with some of the country’s biggest banking groups ceasing operations at certain locations.
Here is a breakdown of the Wells Fargo, PNC Bank and JP Morgan Chase bank branches closures filed in the week of September 23, according to the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency:

In March of this year, S&P Global Market Intelligence Data found that bank closures outpaced branch openings dramatically.
Over this period, 149 locations were shut down across the US with only 47 branches opening in comparison.
Similarly to last month, PNC Bank and Wells Fargo topped the list of most active net branch closures in March 2023.
At the time, Wells Fargo’s president and CEO Charles Schar said: “Our branch network will continue to be the key to the business, but our customers expect us to provide them with increasingly digitized and seamless banking experiences across all channels.”
