The full Australia Open men's singles list has been revealed, with one of tennis' most successful stars making an astonishing comeback

The 2024 Australian Open Men's Singles competitiors have been revealed ahead of the year's first tennis Grand Slam event. Two-time winner Rafael Nadal has been named on the list despite currently being ranked as World No. 664 as he continues his comeback.

Nadal’s entry into the tournament may come as some surprise to fans following the 22-time Grand Slam winner’s difficult year. The Spaniard started the year with a straight-sets defeat to Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the Australian Open in Jan. before sustaining a hip injury.

The injury would see Nadal forced to withdraw from the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments while receiving treatment. Following further assessments the 37-year-old was ruled out of the remaining Grand Slam events of the year.

His absence would see him drop out of the top ten rankings for the first time since April 2005 – the 912-week stint was the longest top ten streak in ATP rankings history. Later in the year, Nadal would also drop out of the top 100 rankings for the first time since 2003.

Amid the struggles, Nadal is hoping to mount a comeback despite being well into the twilight of his career. The Spanish former World No. 1 will be eyeing a third Australian Open win but will meet some strong competition en route to the final.

Ahead of the season-opening Grand Slam event, the list of players entering the Australian Open Men's Singles for 2023 has been named. The list includes the likes of current World No. 1 and reigning champion Novak Djokovic.

Other notable names hoping to enjoy victory at the prestigious event include Djokovic’s newest rivals Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner. The tournament is set to commence on Sunday, Jan. 14 2024.
