Amber Heard distracts fans with 'half a second' appearance in Aquaman 2 trailer

Amber Heard's reduced role as Mera in the upcoming superhero sequel has been distracting fans after her publicized legal feud with ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be in theaters this December, but a major character from the first film won’t be making much of an appearance.

After joining Arthur Curry (played by Jason Momoa) on a globetrotting adventure last time, Aquaman’s girlfriend Mera (Amber Heard) apparently won’t be joining the superhero on his next mission.

A trailer was released this week, and Heard’s underwater heroine appears in just one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene where she seems to be trapped behind glass.

Instead, the focus this time is on Aquaman reluctantly teaming up with his brother Orm/Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) to defeat his nemesis Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

DC Comics fans were rather distracted by the shake-up to the main cast, especially as it comes after Heard’s high-profile court appearances at Johnny Depp’s defamation trials.

On X/Twitter, @RealMukul posted: “Her one-second scene is generating more buzz than anyone else in this movie. That's Mother Amber Heard's impact right there.”

But @RowanHiII replied: “Only because people are surprised she's even in the trailer at all.”

And @JordanSumbu said: “Erasing Mera from Arthur’s journey and especially now that they’re married and have a kid is ridiculous.

“All because of the misogyny towards Amber Heard.

“I’ve seen Hollywood men with several allegations be celebrated and featured in movies without ever getting this type of hate.”

However, other fans were glad to see Heard’s role reduced in the wake of the controversial trial.

In the run-up to the highly-anticipated sequel, director James Wan has maintained it was always his intention to pull focus away from Aquaman’s relationship with Mera.

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera's journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm.

“So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We'll leave it at that.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is out in theaters on December 20.
