Ahsoka on Disney+: Classic Star Wars characters who could make a cameo appearance

Millions of Star Wars fans are expected to have tuned in to the premiere of Ahsoka on Wednesday - but will the rest of the series feature surprise appearances from some classic Star Wars characters?

Ahsoka takes place just a few years after the events of the original Star Wars trilogy - so which classic characters could we expect to see popping up for cameos?

The new Disney+ series follows Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson), who was originally the apprentice to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen).

Directed by animation guru Dave Filoni, the series is expected to continue several storylines laid out in his popular cartoons, including Rebels and The Clone Wars.

But, with the events of Ahsoka taking place so close to the original Star Wars trilogy, will any of the classic characters turn up?

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker

Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) has already made several appearances throughout the Disney+ shows, so it’s a safe bet that he’ll turn up at some point in this one.

In The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, he’s a mentor to Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) companion Grogu and a friend to Ahsoka.

Actor Hamill recently admitted he’s “done” with the character and said “They don’t need Luke anymore.”

However, that may not stop Disney as they’ve already brought in newcomer Max Lloyd-Jones to resurrect young Luke - with the help of some CGI and voice modulation.

Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia

Princess Leia

Of course, sadly the original Princess Leia is no longer with us following the death of Carrie Fisher in 2016.

Even so, Leia has already been brought back after her death as recently as last year.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master, young actress Vivien Lyra Blair portrayed Leia as a child.

While most fans would take against Disney trying to resurrect Fisher with CGI, there’s nothing stopping them from throwing a Leia filter over a new actor’s face for a quick cameo - as they did at the end of Rogue One.

Han Solo

Ahsoka stars a rag-tag group of Jedi and bounty hunters which also includes her companions Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndella (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).

Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) is also expected to join the fight at some point, and die-hard Star Wars fans are desperate to see the original scoundrel Han Solo (Harrison Ford) come up against the animated heroes.

Unfortunately, Ford seems to be done with the character after The Rise of Skywalker and has been busy with new projects like Yellowstone and Indiana Jones 5.

He’s also a little too old to portray Han at this stage of his life - if only Disney had recently cast someone who could play the scruffy-looking nerfherder as a younger man?

Of course, we’re talking about Alden Ehrenreich, who played Han in his own prequel movie in 2018 and sadly hasn’t had the chance to fly the Millennium Falcon since.

James Earl Jones as Darth Vader

Darth Vader

Hayden Christensen is confirmed to once again return as Anakin - as he did under his Darth Vader guise throughout Obi-Wan last year.

However, it’s currently unknown just how he’ll appear, as he famously sacrificed himself to defeat the Emperor (Ian McDiarmid) at the end of Return of the Jedi.

It’s safe to assume Christensen will appear looking more like himself as a Force Ghost to provide some guidance to his former apprentice, Ahsoka.

But, could the series also flash back to a time when the young Jedi faced off against one of the most powerful Sith in the galaxy?

Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn

Rebels Characters

Along with Ahsoka, Sabine, Hera and Ezra, several other characters from the animated series are expected to return.

There’s the droid Huyang (David Tennant), Jai Kell (Vinny Thomas) and Clancy Brown reprising his voice role as Ryder Azadi.

But, perhaps the most feared character in all of Star Wars lore to still not make an appearance in live-action is Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen).

He was confirmed to be appearing in the series trailers, but he hasn’t made himself known just yet.

Could next week’s episode finally reveal his hiding place?
