TikToker Kaci (@kaciroche) has filmed a video warning RVers about the possible implications of living in an RV that is older than 10 years. Looking upset, Kaci details what happened when she called up an RV park in Florida, that she and her husband Chris, along with their dog Remy, wanted to stay in.

When the park asked them how old their RV was, they were told in no uncertain terms that their RV wasn't suitable and they were denied a reservation.

Kaci records the video with their RV, Big Betty, sitting behind her. It is in immaculate condition.

Big Betty is a 17-year-old class A motorhome. Kaci also states that the interiors are pristine.

Kaci from Wisconsin and their husband Chris from Manchester, England have been living and traveling in their RV since January 2023.

“If you’re considering or living in an RV or tiny living, anything that falls underneath that category, one thing you have to know about is the 10 year rule, so unfortunately Chris and I are figuring out this the hard way”, she says.

“If you want to stay in certain RV parks your RV or whatever vehicle you’re living in has to be 10 years or newer to the date, which can make things tricky.”

The 10-year rule has caught out the couple and sadly, many parks have the same rule. Generally, the reason for the rule appears to be that older vehicles may have a higher potential to develop problems.

There’s also the aesthetics issue with some older vehicles not giving off the type of vibe, or clientele the park owners want to attract.

One wrote: “This is just another way to keep class separate”.

Another suggested: “Typically they will let you in if you send them pictures. We’ve never had an issue & we have lived in 30-year-old Res. Boujee RV parks aren’t worth it

One said: “Just lie, they likely won’t check”.

While another: “That’s why I only stay at state parks. Our 1999 camper is always welcome”

There are tricks that you can do to help ‘update’ your RV according to campersmarts.com

  • Freshen up the clear coat on the exterior
  • Replace peeling decals
  • Add chrome-look trim for instant updating
  • Replace hubcaps which come in an array of colours and finishes
